visiting latvia for christmas

čau everyone! I want to start this off with saying I am a russian citizen but have residency of the eu (spain specifically) my boyfriend is latvian and i was planning on going to Latvia for catholic christmas to spend it with his family however unfortunately both my dad and his dad said it would be a bad idea as they were worried about my citizenship posing any problems even though I am an eu resident. Now I am wondering if anyone knows anyone or has heard any stories about russian citizens having issues visiting even though there is no border control so hypothetically there shouldn’t be any issues, i am planning to try to go this december or maybe even sooner if possible :D
