When kpop fans say "popular in Asia only"
"Popular in Asia only". I've seen this many times during discussions both on Reddit/Twitter. IMO it doesn't make any sense. You are stanning Asian idols. Shouldn't you want them to be popular in Asia???
& how is it a bad thing when a huge chunk of album sales, streaming, views, votes & social media engagements come from Asia?
And taking a look at the biggest kpop tours. Over 50% of attendance are from Asia alone.
BTS- Love/Speak Yourself-1.9 mil (1 mil in Asia)
Blackpink- Born Pink- 1.8 mil (1 mil in Asia)
Twice- Ready To Be- 1.5 mil (900k in Asia)
Bigbang- Made- 1.5 mil (1.3 mil in Asia)
I know though popularity is not universal, and for some smaller groups it's more of a necessity for them to focus outside Asia to make up the numbers. It's not because the company is amazing, it's just reality. Asia is not a multi/casual playgroup unfortunately.
TLDR: 1)Asia 2)North America 3)Europe=South America 4) Oceania 5) Africa. Personally Asia is the most important market for Kpop. So saying "only popular in Asia" sounds stupid.
Also I'm not saying that companies should ignore other regions. I want to see a group tour in Africa or South Asia for a change. Maybe do a collab?
