What do filmmakers think when their big-budget movies flop?
I’ve always been curious about what goes on in the minds of directors and producers when their films fail to recover even a fraction of the investment. Imagine a movie with a budget of 50 crores that ends up making less than 10 crores at the box office.
Let's take Vanangaan (2025)
It's box office is around 6-9 crore till date and its clearly not going to gross it's budget.
Do filmmakers realize during production that the film might not work?
Do they know when things are going wrong, or are they genuinely unaware until release day?
What happens behind the scenes? Does the producer just absorb the loss, or are there contingency plans?
Do directors ever question themselves when they’re in the middle of creating a film that’s clearly not shaping up as expected? How much of a film's failure is due to bad storytelling, poor execution, or simply a mismatch with audience expectations?
