How to subscribe with Ahamo with a residence card?

Yesterday I wrote my address on the back of my residence card at city hall. Great! Now I can subscribe to Ahamo. And NO.

I tried many different combinations, every time, I have to wait 5-6 hours just to have an email saying me to fuck off, application denied because:

Reason for not accepting the application
・The information on the identity verification document and the information on the order do not match.
Example: Name (Kanji/Kana), address, date of birth, etc.

So I did my best Google-fu to find this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/mxh41j/having_trouble_registering_for_ahamo_its_annoying/

Except it is 4 years old, I went to a Docomo shop. I asked for the Gigalight 4g, for the small fee of 4,500 yen, like the fuck. I used Google Translate because my Japanese currently sucks, so I have the whole conversation:

  • Me asking the Gigalight 4G
  • He asked me how much time I want to use it, I said 1 month because it's just to be registered.
  • He suggested me to "buy a rental sim"
  • Asking me what is a rental sim.
  • "If you plan to use it for one month, it is better to buy a SIM card at Yodobashi Camera or Bic Camera"
  • I told him I know resign fees will be high but It doesn't matter, I just want to be registered. And get a phone number, not just data (I assumed Yodobash sim are data only, which I currently have)
  • "Even rental phones are delivered with a phone number, so I think It's a good deal".

You must be thinking that this conversation has no head or tail. I don't think this very nice salesman understood my request. I don't think I was very clear either (although I showed him the Japanese translation to be sure).

SO AHAMO, HOW TO GET IN WITHOUT REJECTING FFS. First time I see such an hostile way to subscribe. In general, it is harder to get out then getting in.

I must confess that I was very ill and didn't have the patience to continue, as I had a feeling it was going nowhere anyway. So, in early 2025, what's the magic technique for getting a phone number? I was offered to open a bank account before I could get a phone number, which is a bit strange.

Thank for your help.
