Odds and Ends About Jane Austen: Jane Austen and her Sister were Roommates All Their lives.
Jane and her sister Cassandra shared a bedroom, as far as is known, all their lives.
They had single beds. Anyway, Jane had the comfort of someone to talk to at night.
Their bedroom at Chawton Cottage is fairly small so it must have been somewhat cramped.
Chawton Cottage had four upstairs bedrooms. One for Jane's mother, one for friend Martha Lloyd, who lived with them, (and shared expenses)-and apparently a guest bedroom.
This would have been a bedroom for the brothers, nieces and nephews to use; (with some other bedrooms in one of the attics).
