Immigrating to Japan seems impossible

I was looking up requirements for immigration and it seems impossible to stay unless you are an english teacher or student . Is it possible to move to Japan and live there if your job will remain based in your home country? It seems like the long term stay visas are attached to a job in Japan or studying. The other visas are for cultural activities and the minimum saving amount is astronomical. Has anyone with a remote job in their home country successfully gained a visa to live there. I'm not looking for citizenship just permission to stay for longer than a few months . Five years would be best. Any insight would be helpful.
