What crime, in your opinion, could justify such a punishment?

Imagine for a moment that this is a sentence in a dystopian world: Through the use of advanced technology, the individual has been erased from the memories of their loved ones and everyone they have ever interacted with, as though they never existed. Their brain has been reprogrammed to function improperly. Their subconscious has been modified to erase every lesson or progress made during the day, resetting them to a state of self-sabotage every time. The history of those who once loved them has been rewritten so that they no longer remember this person at all. Their humanity has been stripped away. Their body has been programmed to gradually deteriorate, succumbing to one horrific disease after another. They have been deprived of any capacity to move forward in life.
