recently married - help me decide between a house or a condo?
prices for both options are quite similar, althought we might have to pay more for a house because of property taxes, whereas the condo only has a condo fee (as far as i know)
condo
pros:
- high ceiling
- feels more "homey"
- big windows, lots of natural light (good for the winter blues)
- huge space (2000 sqft)
- 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
- 5 minute drive to a park
- close to downtown
- underground parking
- won't have to worry about maintenance
cons:
- not traditional
- not sure what it will be like to raise a family in a condo
- no backyard
- no garage
- area can be sketchy
- may not be accommodating for a growing family
house
pros:
- traditional
- backyard
- garage
- allows for more freedom with modifications, maintenance
- more privacy
- may be closer to schools
- more adaptable for growing family
cons:
- smaller space compared to the condo
- can be more expensive if we have to develop the basement, add fence
- residential, further from downtown
- a lot of maintenance (fall, winter)
- low ceilings
