Music Assistant with HA and Sonos
Hi everyone,
I've been using HA at home for a long time but am new to Music Assistant, I've just got it up and running in Docker on a spare raspberry pi and it seems to be running very nicely. The idea would be for us to have one central place handling all music requests at home, something that does announcements and plays well with AirPlay and something we can control with the new HA Voice boxes (when they arrive). So that lead me to MA.
Right now we have a number of Sonos devices, some old and some new but all compatible with the latest Sonos app (not S1). Some support AirPlay natively and some don't, for the others I have been using the AirSonos add on. All the Sonos devices are added to HA via the Sonos integration, and I have been using Sonos cloud to do the announcements.
My question is then for those with HA and MA experience, what is the best way of connecting everything? There seems to be a few ways of doing things:
- Add Home Assistant MediaPlayers as a player provider in MA, this brings in the Sonos speakers but creates duplicate media players in HA, what would be the advantage of this?
- Remove the Sonos integration from HA and use Sonos as a player provider in MA, I guess this would then create those as media players in HA for me to use
- Should I then remove AirSonos?
- What is the best way of doing announcements?
Maybe I'm overthinking things but I'm trying to get everything right the first time. I'd be grateful for any pointers from those more experienced!
Thanks!
Will
