Looking to get better at an older age
Anyone else feel a desire to just get better and better...but at early 30s...it's just hard to do? I feel like it's sorta frowned upon to try to take it anywhat seriously at an older age. It's not that I have any intentions of "making it" anywhere, I'm just passionate about the feeling the sport gives me. I want to reach my full potential...but at beer league age, I guess that's sort of cringy/weird?
Over the past year:
- I've lost 30 pounds (still got another 30 to go).
-Doing hill sprints to work on explosiveness.
-Ive gotten my butterfly to a completely parallel flare.
-Ive managed to get the front splits & middle splits.
-Joined a "competitive" league of 10+ teams but haven't really gotten a chance...so been mostly riding the pine. Good for practices.
- Ive been doing NHL Sense Arena on the highest difficulties and focusing on puck tracking-went from being able to stop half of the shots in the slot from NHL players (don't know how accurate this is lol) to practically all shots. Definitely saw this translate to the ice.
-Worked on my pushes and edgework. Feel more confident there.
Things I need to improve on:
-Rotational quickness. Not sure how to do this as I don't really have anywhere to slam a medicine ball against a wall lol. Losing more weight would help here.
-More edge work. My pushes & stops are good but I feel somewhat sloppy in overall crease movement. Shuffling needs a bit of work. Don't really know how to improve this without someone correcting me & being able to get extra ice time somehow. Can't really set up synthetic ice in an apartment lol.
-RVH entries and exits. Once again, can't get on the ice enough to make consistent improvement.
-Puckhandling. My shot is pretty weak and inconsistent. Once again, can't really isolate this without looking like a lunatic in some parking lot.
Anyone have any suggestions for improvement & overcoming these obstacles? Or am I out of my mind & there's only so much that can be done?
