I Loved You Once

Lead your life apart from mine. Your mere existence is enough. I don't require the sight of your eyes sparkling when the sun hits them, the touch of your hand where mine used to fit perfectly, or the embrace we once shared. I am fulfilled with how things turned out for us. Memories of your smile, your laughter, and your presence in this world are enough. Your happiness is no longer mine to obtain. Our paths will never cross again, and accepting this has ultimately been freeing. My eyes have opened wide enough to see past the sunset of the world I once dreamt about with you by my side.

I release you into the world without claim. Love isn't ownership; it's a selfless offering, independent of reciprocation. Its purity lies in its individual existence, and I love you enough to let you go off into this chaotic world to discover your truest self. I hope, for your sake, you find that peace.

You are you, and I am me; what was 'us' is now 'I' and 'you.' Yet, as long as we both exist, know this—I love you, but I love you as someone who taught me never again to devalue my self-worth. I love you for teaching me what I truly deserve.

I loved you once in this lifetime, and for me, that is more than enough.
