Need explanation

Is there a specific reason why they mounted so many delay speakers on the ceiling of the GelreDome but just used the main ones around the stage? I was hoping since the beginning that they would go louder and louder by using them little by little, but they just stayed shut the whole evening. Why putting them there in the first place?
