Gout Medication

Hey Everyone - I'm a 34 year old guy from India, weighs 101kgs and I've had gout for the past 4 years. I'm currently going through a flare up in my foot and I get these every 3 months or so. I manage the pain by taking painkillers. My UA level is 8.9.

I'm in the process of losing weight and I barely have any beef, food with high purine content, beer etc. I do have a few servings of white rum and soda most weekends though.

Went through a bunch of posts here and I see most of you recommending Allopurinol. Is that the answer to my gout issues? I looked it up online and apparently the use of it can lead to liver issues and that you're not supposed to drink alcohol while you're on it? But I've read people here saying that they do drink alcohol while taking it.

Could you please let me know the pros and cons of taking Allo? And, do I see a rheumatologist to get a prescription?
