Golf shoe recommendations
BLUF: looking for golf shoes to reduce pain behind R heel, similar to Hoka Cliftons.
Background: I have a long history of musculoskeletal issues. R foot plantar fasciotomy in 2023. L knee meniscus repair prior to that, impingement L hip, osteoarthritis in both hips and both feet. Previously a distance runner, and I am very active daily (hockey, WW kayaking, etc). My body weight is WNL. Yes, I stretch my calves daily.
I walk almost exclusively, 3-4 times/week. In the last few months, I’ve developed heel pain in my R foot, towards the back where the Achilles tendon inserts, only starts around the fifth hole, and continues/worsens until I finish the round. By #18 I’m beginning to hobble/limp a bit.
Yesterday I walked in my street shoes, Hoka Cliftons. The heel pain was only about 25% of normal. However, they slip, and will be a problem when conditions are wet.
My next experiment is to take the insoles out of my Hokas and try them in my golf shoes.
Are there any recommendations for golf shoes that fix heel pain? (Thinking Achilles tendinitis, but only when I’m on a golf course… weird).
