Solution for dirty paws while walking?

When we walk our golden retriever his paws get super dirty due to mud and washing his furry paws after every walk is a pain, get walks in the house with wet paws and there's dirt everywhere. Any way i can make this efficient? should i get dog shoes for him? or a different way of cleaning his paws?
