RE: Celiac Safe Charleston, SC
Five Loaves Cafe - gluten free cornbread appetizer is a staple here; they have many menu options and GF menu labels
Heavy’s Barburger - dedicated gf fryers for fries and wings and delicious in-house gluten free buns… I am not kidding you when I say this is the best burger joint I have EVER been to. If you go you can follow up and let me know if you agree…
Lewis Barbecue - amazing brisket and super accommodating and knowledgeable, they actually have a sign on their wall that says “please let us know of any allergies”
Rancho Lewis - owned by the same person who started Lewis BBQ and is a Mexican restaurant with PLENTY of gf options and is absolutely delicious
Taco Boy - Delicious higher-end Tex Mex with knowledgeable staff and many options; menu labels as well!
Home Team BBQ - a southern staple; on the more expensive side for BBQ but they have a separate gluten free menu that even breaks down the allergies in their sauces and sides
Basic Kitchen - vegan and gluten free friendly brunch spot that has delicious options for sandwiches, treats, and have GF labels
The Co-Op Gourmet Sandwiches - gluten free bread for sandwiches are available but no separate panini press so all sandwiches have to be served cold if you’re affected by cross contamination
Brown Dog Deli - an abundance of options for gluten free sandwiches due to their gluten free bread and option to heat up sandwiches in the pan vs the flat top where all the other sandwiches go. Glove changes and very knowledgeable staff are one of the many highlights. Also willing to sub gf bread for wraps or paninis to make sure you get what you want!
Hall’s Chophouse - this isn’t even a question… one of the most fantastic restaurants I’ve ever been to. Every item on the menu minus about 3 options are all naturally gluten free due to dedicated fryers and the use of rice flour. FANTASTIC high-end steakhouse with impeccable staff
Oak Steakhouse - fantastic steaks and many menu options, knowledgeable staff that were willing to make changes to each entree to ensure it is safe and enjoyable
Shiki Japanese Restaurant (sushi) - unfortunately ponzu sauce and many of the Japanese grill items are not celiac safe, however most of their sushi options are and they were very willing to substitute in different ingredients to replace the gluten containing ones such as tempura shrimp
167 Raw Oyster Bar - a must-see on King St if you like raw oysters and seafood! I tried my first raw oyster and while I probably will stay away from those, the server directed me to gluten free menu items and I ordered a baked oyster dish that was fabulous
Amen Street Fish and Raw Bar - I got fresh catch of the day tacos and they were delicious. While there weren’t dedicated fryers so fried foods were out of the picture, staff was knowledgeable and accommodating and I had a great dining experience
