Whimsical games with in depth plots and characters

Hello!!! I'm looking for a game that will scratch a certain itch for me. I'm craving something with heavy fantasy elements that revolve around good stories and better characters, preferably not an rpg lol. I especially would like any recommendations that have strong, bold and colorful art styles.

something similar story-wise to One Shot or Night in the Woods in terms of plot but with the whimsy of Zelda or Undertale

I generally prefer 3d over 2d but either is fine!! I'll appreciate literally anything, really just need somethin new that I don't already know inside or out haha
