Is intense pain after ERCP normal?
I had an ERCP done about 24 hours ago where they removed a stone and some sludge from my bile duct. A stent had to be placed during the procedure. My gallbladder was removed about one month ago.
I hoped this ERCP would finally mean some final relief but I’ve been in basically constant pain and discomfort since the procedure. Low grade nausea, low grade pain under my ribs, and severe back pain especially under my right shoulder blade.
The pain is not responding to gas medicine or ibuprofen. I was not prescribed anything after the treatment and they did not warn me of any pain or potential complications other than a temporary sore throat.
Is this type of severe pain typical? It almost feels like I’m having a mini gallbladder attack even though the gallbladder and stones are gone. Wondering if this is just how it is sometimes for the first day or two after an ERCP or if I should be taking myself back to the ER to get this looked at. I was told fever or jaundice means go to the ER but have neither of those symptoms.
