What If Michael Afton Was In The Novel Trilogy: Part One The Silver Eyes

So something that always got me thinking was; how cool would it be if Michael Afton was in the og novel trilogy. The one made by Kira Breed Wrisely a trilogy that truly captured the essence of FNAF. Now to be fair by the time the novels came out Michael was not really a thing in the franchise yet. When he did make his debut it’s unlikely they would be able to fit him into the story smoothly or they just had no interest in doing so. However I always thought it would be interesting as a “what if” case. How would he interact with the characters, what would he add to the story, how would he change its outcome. All interesting questions. However in order to add him some changes will have to be made to the pre-existing story, nothing major though. So let’s get to it.

The beginning of the story is relatively the same. Charlie comes back to Hurricane for the memorial of her dear friend Cassidy Brooks who died ten years prior. (Yes his name will be changed to Cassidy instead of Michael to avoid confusion.) She meets up with her friends John, Carlton, Jessica, Lamar, Marla and Jason. They sneak into Freddy’s but when she attends the memorial afterwards we get are first big change. As Charlie and the gang are leaving the memorial she notices someone in the attendance from afar. A young man. The man looks at her and meets her gaze briefly and Charlie noticed something odd about him but she ignores it. Later that day the gang sneak into Freddy’s again but they are caught by the night guard Mike Schmidt. Mike is described as a tall skinny man with a long neck, chiseled jaw and rather handsome face albeit held back by a look nervousness and insecurity. He had curly comed brown hair and blue eyes. His uniform was worn in a somewhat casual manner with a loose collar and tie but still professional.

.“Mike” is reasonably annoyed by the trespassers but his annoyance turns to shock when he looks at Charlie. He looks at they young woman with a brief expression of shock and confusion like he’s seen a ghost. However he shakes it off and asks why they are here and politely asks them to leave. However they insist they are not here to cause trouble and wish to explore for a bit. “Mike” is hesitant at first but Jessica walks up to him and personally promises that they won’t cause trouble and they be gone within the hour. “Mike” slightly blushes at her and looks at his watch. It reads 11:01. Mike then agrees to allow them to tour the pizzeria but only for an hour and he then leads the there. Mike then explains that he was hired two years prior to guard the place from potential intruders. He notes that he is somewhat glad they came as his job has been quite boring so far and it’s good to have company. Charlie can’t help but notice that Mike is a little off. Like he’s shell shocked. Once they enter the pizzeria they attempt to operate the animatronics using the control panel under the stage but they have no idea on how to use it. Mike seeing them struggle and feeling sympathy offers to it for them. Mike manages to use the control panel to get the animatronics preforming again. Charlie is shocked that he knew how to do that and when she asks him how he was capable he claims that his father was a technician at Freddy’s and he learned a thing or two about the place. He recalls that when he was younger his father would drag him here. He admits that he wasn’t interested in the place because he was fifteen at the time but there was some enjoyable things. Charlie asks what things specifically and he claims that he liked the free pizza.

Charlie then asks if they could see the parts and service room and Mike accepts. Once inside Charlie is amazed by all the spare parts in the room and she always wondered about the inner working of the animatronics. Mike then asks if she is the daughter of Henry Emily. Charlie confirms she is but is confused as to how Mike knows her father. Mike reminds her that he used to come here from time to time and he did personally know Henry. He notes that Henry was always withdrawn and shadowy like he was living in the dark. He talked to him a couple times but he would always try to end the conversation prematurely. Charlie then realizes these behaviors were early signs of his deteriorating mental health which led him to commit suicide. Jessica then looks at a Bonnie head an claims that it looks creepy up close but notes that Bonnie was always her favorite as she liked to talk to him when no one was looking. Jessica asks Mike what his favorite animatronic was. Mike stays quiet for a moment and then admits it was Foxy as he thought the idea of a swashbuckling pirate fox was cool in comparison to the more childish aspects of the pizzeria. He also notes that he owned a foxy mask as a kid. Charlie and John claim to remember the mask with John claiming that no matter how many tickets he won he could never afford it. Charlie tells John that he could have just asked her dad to give it to him but he claims his seven year old pride would not allow it.

They all then talk about their experiences with Freddy’s together and bond. Mike then claims that he hasn’t had this much fun since he hung out with his brother and sister. Mike’s face drops when he says this and Jessica notices this and puts a hand on his shoulder asking if he’s okay. Mike claims that his siblings died years ago and he still misses them. He thought that one day the pain would go away and he could move on but he realizes that it will never happen. Charlie empathizes with him noting she lost a lot of people too, her father, brother, and Cassidy and coming back here may be painful somewhat but it’s refreshing and it helps remind her of all the good she was had here. Mike is happy that they understand. The gang then go back to the stage and watch the animatronics preform but this time something unexpected happens. The animatronics begin to glitch out and attempt to break free from the stage. Charlie is then panicked and asks Mike if he knows how to fix it but he claims he doesn’t as his dad only taught him to turn them on not off. The gang decides to get their friends and leave the building. They split up to search and find Jason. Jason claims that a Yellow Rabbit took Carlton. Mike has a look of shock on his face when he says this. He asks if Jason is sure about what he saw but Jason insists he is telling the truth. Mike then instructs Charlie and her friends to get there authorities and find help and that he’ll look for Carlton there.

Although they attempt to appeal the Carlton’s father Clay to help rescue him he doesn’t believe Carlton is missing and just assumes he is playing a joke like in the original. Meanwhile, Carlton is trapped in a Springlock suit inside of a decrepit and musty room. Suddenly a secret sliding door opens and promptly closes. A Yellow Rabbit enters and bows to Carlton. Carlton asks who than man in the suit is but he refuses to remove his mask and claims he will know in due time. He then tells Carlton about the Springlock suits and how painful a death via Springlock failure would be. To confirm this he takes off the torso of the suit to reveal his own scarring from a survived failure. Afterwards the gang return to Freddy’s but the entrance is welded shut. They manage to get in through the vent system and enter the security room. Inside they see Mike who looks very sweaty and worn out. Mike greets them and expresses that he has been trapped there the entire night. Charlie helps him up and asks if he had found Carlton. He claims he searched the building to bottom but he can’t find anything. Mike then remembers something from long ago; the safe room. It’s was kept for storage and hidden from the cameras. Charlie then claims to vaguely remember her father telling her about the room. She claims it was the one place she was never allowed to go in the restaurant. The gang hurry to the roo however John notices a pink piece of paper and picks it up. When he reads it he has a shocked expression on his face but decided to wait to tell the others later. Charlie is cornered by Bonnie and chased into the bathroom but manages to survive. Charlie is confused as to how the animatronics can move. Mike claims that according to his old boss the animatronics were left in a free roaming mode at night to keep their servos from locking up and they might mistake them for a metal endoskeleton that needs to be stuffed inside a suit. Charlie is confused by this as she never recalled the animatronics being able to free roam or walk. Mike comes up with excuse that when the land Freddy’s was on was purchased the new owners attempted to revitalize the brand and the animatronics but it failed. Mike insists that Lamar, Marla and Jason hide in the security room as the doors should protect them from the animatronics. However after Mike and the others leave Jason is captured by Foxy.

They then go to the saferoom and find a hidden button that opens the place up. They find Carlton in the suit and Charlie saves him before the suit can go off. Carlton claims he saw something in the room a Golden Freddy that he believes might be Cassidy but the animatronic vanishes. Suddenly the yellow rabbit returns to the room and is attacked by Charlie who knocks him out. They tie him up and interrogate him. Charlie removes the mask of the suit and the man they see underneath it terrifies them. He looks almost exactly like Mike. His hair was darker, his skin was paler, and his face was more sunken and aged but they looked the same. Mike is shocked that the man is here and begins to hyperventilate like he was scared for his life. Suddenly, John calls out Mike for lying to them. He pulls out the piece of paper he found it’s revealed to be a pink slip. Apparently, Mike was fired from the mall two years ago for “odor” and tampering with property. That on top of the fact he looks just like the man in the rabbit suit makes them question him. Mike is reluctant to tell the truth but Jessica looks at him and pleads with him to be honest. Mike then reveals a dark secret. His real name is Michael Afton and the man they have just met is his father William.

Meanwhile, Clay looks into the mall where Carlton went missing and finds an employee background check on a twenty five year old man named Mike Schmidt. He looks at the photo and recognizes the man as an older Michael Afton the son of the man who murdered the five children William Afton. He notes that when Michael was younger he was always getting into trouble mainly for misdemeanors such as theft and vandalism. Michael was the only thing anyone knew about William’s personal life as he kept everything else secret. He blames it on William and his crappy parenting on Michael’s bad behavior. However after the murders both father and son vanished from town. Some people claim that Michael ran away or was abandoned by his father. Back at the pizzeria Michael claims that his father is the one responsible for the deaths of the five kids in skiing Cassidy. John strikes Afton in the face for this. Mike then tells them that his father was always abusive towards him and made it clear, he hated him. Shorty after the murders, his father abandoned him and skipped town. He was forced to fend for himself and leave town as well. He didn’t want to be the target of anyone as he was the son of an alleged serial killer. He lived in foster system for the next few years until he was allowed to leave at 18. With his father missing, the lawyer saw it fit to presume him dead and his childhood home was left to him. Michael had trouble paying the property taxes for it so he took a job at the mall for money. He knows he had to use a fake identity to avoid getting associated with his father. He went to Freddy’s a couple times for old times sake too. However he noticed something weird going on with the animatronics. These views were only heightened when he saw photos of a yellow rabbit with the words “Imposter” and “The Man Behind the Slaughter ” written on them. Then the animatronics came to move in the night. He then broke a few rules trying to solve the mystery of what was going on here, but this ended up with him getting fired, but he never left. He felt as though something going on here and he needed to get to the bottom of it.

He apologizes to all of them for lying and claims he just wanted to move on. Thankfully, none of them blame him and understand his point of view as they have all been hurt by Afton. This whole time Afton stays quiet and refuses to talk. However, they give him the mask of the Spring Bonnie suit. Like in the originally reveals, the animatronics are possessed by his victims and he tells them all that they will be killed. He, however, particularly mocks Michael for thinking he can move on from what happened, from what he himself did all those years ago. He claims that they both have blood on their hands. Michael tells him to be quiet, however angrily. The gang leave Afton in the safe room, tried to escape the building only to be attacked by the animatronics. Lamar, Jason and Marla are attacked by Freddy but John fights him off. Charlie is attacked by Foxy but John stops him as well. However, Jessica is attacked by Bonnie who knocks her to the ground. Michael get in the way and takes a full hit from Bonnie to the stomach which causes him to cough up a little blood. Jessica runs to his aid and asks if he’s okay However, he insists he’ll be fine. Jessica then thanks Michael for saving her.

However, they soon get surrounded by the animatronics. However, before they are all killed Golden Freddy appears and calls off the animatronics. Carlton finally realizes that Golden Freddy is indeed the possessed by Cassidy. Clay comes in the rescue the gang. Although he shows anger at Michael assuming he was the one who kidnapped Carlton. Charlie claims that he helped save them actually. Clay see’s that Michael is hurt and realizes that they’re telling the truth. Suddenly, William appears in the Spring Bonnie suit and takes Charlie hostage, threatening to murder her unless they comply with his demands. He then looks at Michael and tells him that he has not forgotten about him and that sooner or later he will gut him like a fish for betraying him. However, Charlie activates the Springlocks killing Afton painfully. He gets away by the animatronics and they escape the building. Michael however lose consciousness and is rushed to the hospital. He wakes up to find everybody waiting for him relieved that he’s okay. Clay tells him that he was in a coma for a couple days, but he should recover okay. Michael that expresses worried that they all hate him because of what his father did. However, they assure him that he’s not his father and he’s proven that. He’s held onto this guilt for so long and it’s time it’s time he finally lets it go. Clay is impressed with Michael for his bravery and offers him a job on the force. Michael quickly accepts seeing as he needs a job anyway. The gang the leave but Jessica stays behind for a moment more. Jessica then kisses Michael on the cheek and thanks him again for saving her. Michael blushes and laughs.

THE END Part two coming soon.
