Mathys Tel Mentality
I, like many other people on this sub absolutely love the devotion that Tel has to our club. I’ve never seen someone so young be this passionate about his team, with everything from training hard to interacting with the fans, especially as a non-academy product.
That being said, has anyone picked up on how his perfectionist attitude seems to be getting in the way of his development? He is always so adamant on staying and fighting for his place when a loan move always ends up looking like the right option in retrospect. Anyone who remembers when we bought him knows that he was insanely highly rated as a teen (potential future France legend) and I don’t think he is letting go of this version of himself.
Football careers are highly unpredictable and many don’t work out. The best any player can do is to try and navigate all obstacles life throws at them. There were videos all over YouTube calling Martin Ødegaard a flop at 21 lol. No one here knows what’s on Mathys’ mind, but pretty much all discussion threads on the sub are speculation at the end of the day. I suspect that he may be a bit hesitant or afraid(no, not afraid of other players) to relegate his precious future to a lower level/status when really it would help him reach new heights.
I’m not saying he should want it less. Thats a stupid thing to say about a football player. But I do think he could reevaluate his mentality and how he plans on reaching the top. Learning from the mistakes of others to avoid them can be a smart way to approach life. But as a 19 year old you just have to experience a lot of things for yourself.
