Have EU work visa sponsorships in the tech industry disappeared or is my experience anecdotal?

I am a frontend dev and I've been hoping to move from South Africa to Europe but I've recently become unsure of my odds.

I got a few interviews before the tech industry laid off so many people but now I struggle to even get a first call from EU companies. Are there just too many devs looking for work at the moment? Have companies slowed down their visa sponsorships?

I'd appreciate hearing what other people have been experiencing recently, thanks!
