I’m always conflicted between hoping the church goes hard right to become more toxic so that is implodes, or hoping the church turns the corner and becomes healthier for its members.

I’m not going to lie, I would LOVE to see Brad Wilcox become an apostle or even people like Kevin Pearson or Clark Gilbert. The more batshit crazy the apostle, the more uncomfortable it makes all the nuanced and liberal Mormons. It creates more controversy and embarrassing headlines.

Imagine the fun we would have on here if Brad Wilcox had the microphone all the time!

But then there are days when I have sincere empathy for the members themselves who are harmed by this organization. I think of all the missionaries out in the world who are miserable and who have to suffer from shame like I did.

I think of all the women and children who are further subjugated to harmful patriarchal systems. It makes me hope the church finds ways to healthily deal with its history and doctrine.

So I’m perpetually conflicted. Either way, the church is built on a fraud so it’s irredeemable. Anything built on a sandy foundation can’t be repaired. It has to be either continually repaired as more and more cracks develop or completely destroyed by a seismic ocean wave.
