Elder Renlund has seen Jesus.
Multi-stake special meeting this weekend for women only. Elder Renlund repeated at least 4 times in his talk that he knows Jesus the same as Simeon in Luke 2:25-35. My DW is certain this means he’s seen Jesus just as Simeon did.
It seems to me this story is being used by Elder Renlund to give the strong impression of seeing Jesus when the real story is likely that Elder Renlund feels he is so familiar with Jesus from his spiritual “interactions” with him that he will know him WHEN he sees Jesus. If this is the case, it frustrates me to no end that these men equivocate to the point there is so little room between leading the audience to the conclusion you want them to come to, and still maintaining some weasley way to fall back on saying “no, I didn’t say I’ve seen Jesus. You’re jumping to conclusions.”
On a positive note, we were able to discuss how strange it is that the apostles are able to equivocate to the point that there is no room in my wife’s mind that these men have seen Jesus, and yet it’s not okay for them to just say they’ve actually met and seen Jesus. Very productive conversation where even she expressed confusion these men weren’t allowed to testify of their actual interactions with Jesus and instead have to strongly hint at it.
