RMs, did you develop an illness as a missionary that still affects you now?

I have a brother and sister on missions now and I’m an RM that developed pretty bad depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation that I still struggle with now.

A cousin developed sleeping issues, a friend developed stomach issues, another friend developed IBS, someone else developed severe OCD.

My brother has been sick with dengue fever and other mystery illnesses for months and is now having really bad migraines and my TBM mom just reached out to the 2 of us kids that have left the church asking for our ‘thoughts and prayers’ so he can “do the lord’s will”. She’s acting like this is just god’s will he needs to figure out - whether to stay in South America, reassignment to US, or come home. But I know it’s the undue influence of the church. I want him to come home but he left at 26 to be out there, so I doubt he’ll be so quick to prioritize his health. I don’t think he’s had migraines before, but our mom has, so maybe he would’ve started to get them anyway, but also, missions exacerbate everything so idk.

So yeah, now I’m curious how often the stress of a mission manifests as life-long health issues for people.
