why would a human body continue to function once the consciousness inhabiting it realizes itself?

a question i have for those who understand what im asking. we’ve all heard the phrase “chop wood carry water” but if you think about it… why must a consciousness (source) remain trapped in its human vessel once its awareness is fully realized? did the buddha ever discuss the reason for this? it brings back into question the idea of souls accumulating karma, and having to continue as a living breathing human because of “unpaid debt” if you will.. or perhaps its more of a “none of us are truly free until all of us are” concept
