Wanting to join Bass next year

Hey everyone,

I want to join the bass line next year (my sophomore year). I was wondering if anybody had any tips for me to play well. I have no percussion experience except playing auxiliary for 2 seasons previously. I think our band is a scholastic A. Thanks
