Tried to start my very first G7 sensor while vacationing out of the country. Dexcom app location services would not allow it because G7 is not authorized in Costa Rica. Here’s how I fixed it (iOS)

Dexcom support was completely useless. They basically said it’s not authorized in this country (Costa Rica) and there was nothing they could do.

The best way to avoid this is to start your very first sensor while in your home / approved country.

But if for some reason you find yourself on vacation like I did and blocked by the app, you can still fix it.

Here’s how successfully got around the block on iOS:

  1. Download the GPS spoofing app iAnyGo which has a free trial to spoof your location (twice max!)
  2. Delete Dexcom G7 app. Redownload it.
  3. Plug in your iPhone into the laptop, open the iAnyGo app and choose map coordinates to be inside your home country (or an authorized country like the USA).
  4. Open Dexcom G7 app, authorize location services pop up when asked
  5. It will now detect you to be inside an authorized country and you can complete the onboarding and start your first sensor session!

EDIT: for context, my last ever G6 sensor failed on day 3. It was supposed to last for the whole trip. My only backup was the brand new, never used G7 which I brought in case something unexpected happened (which it did). What I did not anticipate was that I had to be at home to start my very first G7 session ever. So I had to improvise. With the timing of the Rx, insurance and the trip that had been booked for months, it was an unfortunate coincidence of events. But I believe it’s something that Dexcom can and should fix so that they can remotely override the block should someone else run into this in the future with G7 (say for example, if you had a lost/broken/stolen phone overseas that you replaced, you’d be in the same situation as me)
