Is a PhD always a bad career move?

Hi everyone,

I always read a lot of negativities about pursing a PhD for enhance your industry career. Well I’m now in this position and want to know your opinions.

I already work (2yrs) in the defense sector as electronic engineer and got an offer for a PhD in the filed of quantum computer (hw side) form a research group that I know pretty well.

Now, since I’m really interested in the field and also in doing research I’m considering this option.

I’m not sure, though, if this path will pay off well in the future. The market is quite volatile, and I’m worried that this specialization might turn out to be a waste of time when it comes to working in industry. On the other hand, it’s a very niche field that, if it takes off, could put me in the right direction even within industry.

Bring it on!

EDIT: PhD lasts 3 years !
