Embellishing a bath mat ?

Hi all 👋 I’m posting here but if there’s a better place to post please let me know.

A certain store is selling the FINTSEN bath mat and I have an idea to embellish it (embroider? Tuft? Ribbon knitting?) I would like to either using a latch hook or a punch needle and either yarn or old towel scraps to add an image to it (think something like a heart 💜).

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated. The store is 2 hrs away from me so I would like to gather as much research and info as possible before I do the drive but I have been unable to find any info on any thing like this 😅

It would mean an easier way of getting a custom tufted rug look without tufting a whole rug (which I’m a little intimidated by since I’ve never done it before) and from a durability and washability (usability) perspective it would seem like a win. Also (if I’m able to use the towel scraps) give me something to do with my old towels.

Also I could then stitch several mats together to create a runner.
