My secret confidant

Usually, I walk 10minutes from my workplace to get to the train station and catch a train home. But there was once, a few weeks ago, I was really upset about some family matters and I took a different route home. I wandered around on the streets, and after 20minutes, reached a bus stop that had a bus that could get me home. My bus wouldn’t come for another 15minutes, so I went into the starbucks behind the bus stop and got a coffee.

I ordered my coffee, and the guy at the counter seemed to notice I was feeling pretty down. He started making light conversation and joking about, which I passed it off, not really wanting to chat. I got my coffee, sat down at a table and stared into space. Minutes later, he came by, asked if he could sit, and started chatting with me. He was really nice, gently probing me to spill my problems out to him.

And when I was done, almost 45 minutes had passed. I thanked him for his time, apologised for taking up his break, and for listening to me. He smiled.

From that day on, whenever I had the time, I would take that 20minute walk just to see him. We would share each other’s problems, play mobile games together, though of course there are times when he’s crazy busy and I could only sit around and watch him work. I don’t know his name, he doesn’t know mine, but we seem to know each other as though we’ve been best friends for 10 years.

I’m pretty anti-social, so he’s one of the few people that I could tell anything to. Is it weird that my close confidant is someone whose identity I don’t even know?

Edit

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for all the lovely comments. I was smiling while reading all these supportive comments :)

To clear a few things up,

  1. No I’m nowhere near married, I’m only 17! hahaha
  2. This starbucks is pretty quiet so the guys working the counter don’t ask for your name. He’s a trainee/part-timer so he doesn’t have his own nametag either. I think we might have exchanged names before, perhaps on our first meeting, but I can’t quite remember it.
  3. I’ll be seeing him again tomorrow, as we made plans to go to a carnival together. Feeling nervous! I’ll be sure to pluck up the courage to (perhaps!) get his number! //and his name of course:)//

Cheers!
