Hardwood floors in kitchen. Thoughts?

I played the hardwood lottery in my weird kitchen-bathroom and won! Asbestos-laden proof enclosed. Hardwood is thrilling anywhere, but I’m uncertain if it makes sense in a kitchen. It currently has linoleum over it that is due for a refresher.

We are both frequent and functional cooks and bakers, and hardwood seems handsome, but impractical. The design objective for the kitchen is firmly function, then form, which rules out tile and hardwood — change my mind!
