my parents wont stop going on about how i don’t let my cat outside

they keep saying they feel sorry for her but don’t understand the danger. she is a very sweet but curious girl and i’m terrified of anything happening to her.

my dad feeds the street cats about 10 of them will be hanging around the backyard at any given moment with other street cats visiting too. i don’t know the diseases they might have or their personalities but once a week i’ll hear a bad cat fight right outside my window.

i’ve tried leash training my cat but she can’t really stand the leash and doesn’t seem to enjoy her time outside with it on. i honestly feel ridiculous doing it with the other cats around.

i wish there weren’t all these street cats, shelters are full and i’ve done my best to try and keep it to what it is now (trap, desex, release) but i feel they have taken away what could’ve been for my cat.

i would be more open to letting her outside if she felt the backyard was hers and hers alone. i do feel sorry for her too but at the end of the day, staying inside keeps her safe.

how can i get my parents to understand and respect this decision?
