9 weeks post ankle fracture - I’m a bad patient
So I fractured my ankle on November 1. No surgery needed, I was just placed in a boot and allowed 25% WB. The pain went away pretty quick and I could comfortably put partial (definitely more than 25%) weight on my ankle while walking with the aid of crutches by 6 weeks.
At 7 weeks I had a consult with my ortho who said my scans were looking good and that I was healing way faster than he expected. He cleared me for 50% WB for 3 weeks and then 75% for another 3. I was honest with him and said that I unconsciously put way more weight than just 50%.
I’m at 9 weeks post fracture now (January 4) and I can comfortably walk without crutches while in my boot with no pain at all. I discovered this accidentally while rushing to help my grandfather when he fell. I wasn’t thinking and I realized that I left my crutches behind in my haste.
My rehab doctor told me not to do this even if I feel no pain since the formed callus is still soft which may lead to some displacement. So I’m relctantly getting back on my crutches.
I just feel super frustrated at this point because I know I can walk normally and comfortably but I just shouldn’t. I read a lot of posts about people being in so much pain when their doctors cleared them for FWB, but I guess my doctor’s a little bit more conservative and I have to respect that.
It’s 4 more weeks until I get clearance for full weight bearing. Hope I didn’t fuck anything up by walking too early
