Question about what to expect during competition

Hello, I am writing on behalf of my son since he is too young to be online.

So soon he is going to compete in bouldering competition in Ontario. That's going to be his first competition and I am proud of all the hard work he has put in to prepare for it. However we are unfortunately coachless and are therefore kind of in the dark about what will happen. I sadly couldn't get him into the team or get a coach because of my work (I work 3 jobs) but have spent countless hours watching videos and tutorials on the loo and trying to coach him myself. We still climb 4 times a week and train the other 3. I know I should have just attended competition in my area to know what it's like, but I can't afford a day off and am already stretched thin to make sure my son gets to climb to his heart's content. But I did make sure to be available for him on competition day.

What should one expect during the competition? Are there any rules to follow or something to do? I am sorry if this question is obvious but I want to make sure that he gets to have fun during competition and that we don't accidentally do something to get him disqualified. Searching for do and don't didn't yield any results. So if someone has any insight on what to expect and do I would really really appreciate it.

Thanks to anyone responding to this, really appreciate it.
