Borderlands needs a better „difficulty slider“ - e.g. like TLoU
So I think an issue between bl2 and 3 was the difference in difficulty and item rarity: BL2 felt way harder, legendaries were tarier and the grind harder. I think this created a fan base that appreciated and expected this type of scenario, while it also put off a subsection of people that found it to be too tedious. BL3 (other than story flaws) had the issue of legendaries being too available. It’s almost impossible not to use one when it’s right infront of you. I think it was a big flaw to make legendaries also available in vending machines. Anyway I just played TLOU again recently and a fearful that a lot of naughty dog have have at the beginning is choosing you difficulty slider which has significantly varying levels. BL3 has this but it was given a joke („easy“ and easier) neither of which felt that challenging in normal mode. Mayhem levels do address this, but I believe the ability to modify this right at the beginning with different levels eg affecting not only rarity item drops but also ammo and cash availability from enemies or drops could make things more appealing to a broader base that could titrate/fine-tune the game more to one’s liking. I think it would make non-legendaries more significant and talked about. I rarely think about any blue items and maybe a handful of purples in bl3. Even I think about the joy of e-techs and purples in bl2 especially after suffering at the hands of Doc mercy, I really think that this could make a difference. Along these lines: make blue and purple class mods great again or rather more appealing to use (I think bl2 had a good balance and incentive to use them). I would also appreciate bringing back individualised names for the different class mods, be it „lucky war dog“ or „tenacious technophile“ or even „rage meat“. Anyway that’s my 2c on this. Looking forward to your thoughts on this TLoU difficulty scale/slider
