I think WHIPLASH (2014) is only ok

I think Whiplash is well shot and edited, and has an obviously electrifying performance at its core. But it seems like people really think this is a great work and I've never been able to understand why. I think the script is pretty poor, I rarely buy into the character decisions and it keeps me out of the experience the whole time. I don't remember any of the performances beyond Simmons being particularly strong (including Teller who I think I generally do like). To me, it's like a 3.5/5 star movie. 7/10. Three forks.
