BSC suggested gas fees in Metamask

Hi I've been using BSC for a little bit and every time I've done a transaction lately the suggested gas fees have always been about 0.003 BNB which is about 50p/70c which compared to ETH is really good but after seeing videos of a few people using it and saying the gas fees are like 10c I was confused.

I always just accepted the default values for gas price and gas limit because I heard someone say not to mess with them. But after looking up the average gas price and seeing it was saying around 20 gwei I compared that with the value I was getting suggested which was around 160 gwei.

So I sent a transaction of around £2 worth of BNB to another wallet with a custom 20 gwei as the gas price to see if it would get stuck. The fee was about 7p / 10c... It transferred almost instantly.

I see that the current average gas price for ETH is about 160 gwei. Is it possible that Metamask is suggesting the gas fee based on data for ETH instead of BNB?

And is there a way for me to configure Metamask in order for it to suggest to me the correct gas price?
