Junior associates these days don’t know how to think like an attorney!

The title says it all. I truly believe that law school is failing this younger generation. I was having a conversation with a colleague in the elevator, and I turned to a first year associate and asked them “pardon me, do you have the time?” Do you know how they responded? They said “it’s 8:37.” That’s not at all what I asked. I asked “do you have the time.” Clearly it’s a yes or no question, and they should’ve responded with yes. I fear for the future of BigLaw - and specifically my firm - if this is the quality of candidates that supposed top law schools like Northwestern are sending us. People, answer the question and only the question! Don’t make assumptions!
