My ecigs 19650 battery degassed on the bed today... need help

So my husband had his ecig on a charger and we smelled this gross metallic smell. Like holding keys or quarters. It was gross. He realized it was his batteries, took his ecig off the charger and tossed it outside. Room didn't fill up with smoke. It just has a smell. Picture is the bed. We aired it out a while. But the smell is still in the room. Changed the covers. Poured baking soda over where it started to over heat. How dangerous is the smell? How do i get rid of it? Like I said there was no actual smoke. But a horrible smell. The exig had a cover. The batteries are in a flame retadent blanket in a bucket. We looked at the batteries, there destroyed. See char marks. My husbands hands smell like it. Can we sleep in the room?
