constant watching and striking
hi all. for some context, ive had my ball python for almost a year now. I’ve never had problems with aggression/ fear with her, I’ve handled her hundreds of times and have never had a problem. as of a month ago, she began to become constantly stressed and wouldn’t accept food. she’s went on a hunger strike before, so I just continued to try to feed her. now, at the time we were having a mice problem- they were all throughout the house. I was certain she could smell them, so I deep cleaned my room and moved her higher up. she seemed to relax as she wasn’t moving from a corner for a while (she is now moving about more.) but, when trying to feed her she would continue to strike the air around me. then, I realized maybe the mice were too big so I sized down (we had gotten a larger size because they were out of her usual ones.) the next feeding session, she struck the air once and after a lot of coaxing she ate the mouse. I had to have someone else she’s familiar with feed her due to my very shakey hands and I had gotten nervous around her due to the striking. during the mice problem, I hadn’t been in my room much due to my fear of rodents. now, when I’m at my desk (which is where she’s at) she watches me constantly in a striking position and will strike at the glass. I put up painters tape on the door in hopes she realizes there’s a barrier. I’ve put fabric with my scent on it in her tank and she’s not afraid to go over to them. she has multiple hides and never seemed to have a problem with her tank before. but, Tuesday I’m going to buy some more clutter for her tank in case she feels exposed. I’m still trying to figure out the world of snakes, any advice is greatly appreciated. by the way, she’s fairly young but I’m not certain her age. PLEASE comment any tips!!!
