Anyone else feel your daycare just hikes the price because you literally have zero choice?

We live in a regional area hence the somewhat “cheap” prices compared to major cities I’m sure - however our daycare continues to give us a 10% increase year on year under the guise of an increase in operating costs and wanting to give their staff a pay rise. I bet the staff get 2% so even with CPI they’re double dipping.

What this really is is them absorbing government subsidies and using inflation as a lever to increase margin despite the rest of us doing it tough too.

And do we have a choice? No. There aren’t enough daycares or slots available. It took us over 6 months to get the days we want and there is zero availability elsewhere. So if we don’t like the prices the only option is for one of us to quit our job and start a long transition into a new service.

No wonder people keep choosing to have less kids!
