Imagine actually saying this out loud...
I was watching a church sermon where the pastor, during the little intro prayer, mentioned one of their dear congregation members who was giving birth at the time. The detail he went into is soooo cringey. He said something along the lines of:
"Lord, we ask for a healthy delivery, and that the baby has no major health complications" etc., etc., or whatever.
What. The. Fuck.
If a baby comes out with major health complications, Christians are going to find a way to call it positive gift from God regardless.
But after specifically asking for no health complications, how do they react if that baby does have major health complications?
Of course they're still gonna call it a positive gift from God, but how do they justify to themselves that "GoD HeArD mY pRaYErs, aNd tHe aNsWeR wAS nO tHiS tIMe"? How can they justify God torturing an innocent child for the purpose of a "greater lesson for prayer seekers"? What about the damn child???
That was just a BIZARRE thing to say, even by goofy religious standards. And, quite honestly, I'm sure all of them specifically pray for that at least silently. But audibly hearing it in real time made my stomach turn.
