Why are niche communities always so friendly?

It's not always the case, but everytime I enter a community for a niche (e.g niche video game, an instrument, food), the people are always very well spoken and supportive. However, when I enter a larger community, everyone is so cold, toxic and hostile.

Just a consistent thing I've noticed.
