Why I am unsubscribing to this sub
Hey y’all,
After 21 years living in West Asheville and spending more time here on r/asheville than I’d like to admit, it’s time to move on. Why? Well, I literally moved. I’m not one of those internet lurkers who hangs out in community subs, whats up with that?
Two days after Helene hit, my wife and I packed up and left. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one we’d been tiptoeing around for years. The timing? Absolutely surreal but the house was sold and by some act of good our moving truck made it from 26 north before the bridge collapsed.
Before I head out, my ego insists I leave behind some parting thoughts (aka unsolicited ramblings):
- Remember: r/asheville is just a quirky corner of the internet. Shitposts? Treasure them.Endless debates about the best ____? Well, just don’t take it too seriously.
- Fart Lady: Yes, you read that right. Fart Lady was my personal favorite moment here. It encapsulated everything that makes this subreddit amazing: bizarre, tactless, yet somehow for the greater good. Chef’s kiss.
- Small Town Vibes: Asheville’s a small city, and its neighborhoods are even smaller. Don’t get bogged down in endless discourse. Step outside if you need perspective, but apparently not today you weak skinned cold whimps.
- The Only Constant Is Change: Asheville changes and you’ll change, too. You can’t hit pause on life. 21 years has its ups and downs. I used to be able to lay on haywood road and walk into any restraunt downtown, but at the same time, we had Pastabilities and hookers so good and bad, you decide which is which.
This isn’t one of those dramatic “screw you guys, I’m out” posts. I’m just saying goodbye because I’ve got places to go and, well, I’m not technically local anymore.
Peace,
[A Former West Ashevillian]
