Was saving young Jayce the right move?

I had a thought today that I simply cannot get out of my head.

So, Viktor went through a bunch of timelines or alternate realities where he saved Jayce and his mom but gave a different rune to Jayce to allow himself to see the error of his ways right?

And Ekko saw a universe without hextex that was overall pretty great with the exception of Vi dying.

So what happens in a universe where Viktor saves Jayce but doesn't give him the rune? Theoretically, here he could seek out runes and cause worse destruction than the canon.

So what about one where he doesn't save Jayce and his mom? This reality is sure to result in less destruction and loss of life than the canon right??

Did Viktor consider these things?

(I also considered Viktor was only able to go back and change things once he interacts with the arcane but then that's where time travel starts to confuse me. Jayce had to be saved and given the rune for Viktor to interact with the Arcane and go back, so I've kind of abandoned that idea.)

Anyway, I would love people's thoughts about this because its driving me a little crazy.
