A kind of convoluted question about saving home videos in iCloud...

For a year or two now, I have been slowly going through my family's home video VHS tapes from the 90s and recording them onto my Macbook to have digital copies of them. Each time I do this, I trim up the video, and put it into one of a handful of sub-folders that are housed within a shared iCloud folder that each of my direct family members have access to.

This has been a perfect system so far, and although they are all stored in the cloud, I have the option selected for the iCloud folders on my Macbook to also store locally so they are actually on my laptop hardrive as well. This just makes me feel more comfortable that if something were to happen to the cloud, I still have them stored locally (unless of course they were erased from the cloud and synced to erase them from my computer). That's a whole separate conversation, but for the purpose of this question: It's my preference to have them stored locally.

I'm getting to a point now where these videos are taking up a pretty significant amount of room on my laptop, and I've started thinking about storing them on an external hard-drive.

Is there any way to include a folder in an external hard-drive in my iCloud folder? What makes this tricky is that I still want all my other iCloud stuff stored locally.

I'm actually not even sure if my question is clear, but I can clarify if this doesn't make any sense.
