What is slowly creating this shallow depression? Weeks worth of scratching. NW Wisconsin.
There's two spots in my old pasture (unused, only a walking trail for me and the pup, and no, the dog isn't doing it) that I first noticed a few weeks ago. Since that time, this animal has continued to scratch/dig in the same two spots, almost nightly it seems.
These spots are very compact, dry, rocky dirt.
There are woodchucks, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, feral cats, and tons of other critters/rodents in the area. Is something grinding down its claws?
Notice the width and spacing of the nails in the right side of the picture.
Human hand for scale :)
