Youth sports rant

This is a generational get off my lawn type rant but my disdain for youth sports only continues to grow. Every sport is a cash grab. My third grader is participating at a bball tourney in the Northeast where the entrance fee was 45 bleeping bucks. What possibly could be the reason for this? I’m sure there was some fee to use the space but most other tourneys will have entrance fees of $15-25. It’s bad enough that we paid several hundred bucks for him to join the team plus uniforms but paying to watch him play is so fucking stupid. I understand no one is forcing us to do this but he loves playing.

I also hate the idea that you need to be specialized in a sport at a young age and play it year round. There are so few multi sport athletes like we had in our day. Coaches can be hardos and think you’re doing a disservice to your kid if you have them play other sports or if you aren’t willing to sacrifice all your free time to schlep them around to every game and practice.

Don’t even get me started on some of the parents too. You had your time. Don’t make a scene and be asshole in front of your kid either.
