Could CD Projekt Red have developed their own protagonist for Witcher?
I keep hearing among some gaming fans being disappointed, saying they prefer to have a completely new Witcher from a different Witcher School.
I can understand this argument, having a completely new character or set protagonist with their own supporting cast could mean expanding the lore further than just Geralt and his circle. It doesn't even necessarily have to take place during Geralt's time period such as taking place in an era before Witcher schools were closed down when Witchers were more necessary and monsters were more prevalent thus opening to many new opportunities for exploration, combat and stories. This protagonist would be different from Geralt as he lived in an era where Witchers are more tolerated or at least seen quite differently
But at the same time creating an entirely new character as a protagonist would require far more innovation and quality writing, Geralt and his cast are just too iconic.
At the same time CD Projekt Red have claimed they went with Ciri because they want to follow canon characters from the books and Ciri was an active protagonist as Geralt was in the books so from this logic it makes sense that Ciri should have been the protagonist for next Witcher stories in the game universe.
So could it be better if CD Projekt have created their own protagonist for their games?
