Ran my counts for the first time in TOW
Long story short had VC back in 6th then life happened and I was happy to dust some old models while getting new ones too for TOW.
Edit: this was played at 2500 points
Ran a VC on zombie dragon in the style of blood dragons with no magic and all melee with ogre blade and talisman of protection. The general being the lvl 4 necro (nice touch and lore friendly given the example of Konrad) with cloak of mist, hauberk, and scepter of noirot. Got that 6th Ed banshee in there and a wight king with ruby ring and biting blade.
4 blocks of infantry with 2 x 30 skellies with spears and 2 x 20 zombies (that both reached close to 40 with nehek).
Tried to pull a pincer move with one flank having blood knights, 10 dire wolves, and a varghulf while the other flank had dragon, 10 dire wolves, and 10 black knights.
Played against greenskins and took an L due to some outmaneuvering on one flank and the giant somehow taking down the zombie dragon (only ended in there due to overrun and ogre blade gave me 1 wound on every D3 and giant kept getting the head butt and landing 3 wounds at a time).
Played against ogres and squeaked out a win.
Limited experience but some quick thoughts: - zombie dragon is extra clumsy with that big base and my poor 6th Ed metal one looks like he doesn’t quite fit on it.
skeletons are awesome which is great. Low cost 5+ armor with 6+ regen and they can sometimes cause wounds too with the extra rank.
blood knights are absolute glass cannons and I prolly can’t have them on the flank as they need to be close enough to a necro to get wounds healed. Might splurge on a mounted lvl 2 necro to run behind them just for this.
varghulf underperformed but I still like the model so will be auto included lol
black knights are mobile combat res units cuz they don’t seem to do much damage
wight king is a must at that point level, no one wants to face him cuz good WS and what if he rolls a 6?
thinking about adding vargheists (been sitting on a box of them for a while) for a very fast damage dealer on the flanks and whittling down the black knights to a smaller unit.
Overall a fun army and I’m glad they’re back but this game seems much less about the infantry blocks but that’s the vibe I like so rule of cool over logic and won’t leave home without 100+ rambling undead.
Appreciate any CC about tactics or just commentary if you’ve read this far :)
